Sexual health: testing for STIs and HIV
Where to get tested for STIs and HIV for free or at low cost, whatever your immigration status, and what to ask for at the clinic.
Start here
- City sexual health clinics test anyone 12 and older for STIs and HIV, whatever their status and even if they can’t pay.
- From the experience of people in our chats (2023–2024): ask for the full (extended) set of tests right away.
- If a possible HIV exposure was less than 72 hours ago, don’t wait for a test: ask the clinic for PEP right away.
1Where to get tested for STIs and HIV
STIs (sexually transmitted infections) include syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea.
